Welcome

Welcome to the Legacy of Brown Resources page. Materials found on the site are based on the work created as part of the U.S. Department of Education's Teaching American History project "American Rights & Race Relations: The Legacy of Brown v. Board of Education." You will find lesson plans, Document Based Questions, print resources and web resources. You will also find videos of exemplary teaching strategies demonstrated by project participants.

Funded with a Teaching American History grant from the US Department of Education and the US National Endowment for the Humanities, the partnership capitalizes on the unique opportunity afforded by the 50th anniversary of the landmark Brown v. Topeka Board of Education Supreme Court case of 1954. Project participants worked with local and national scholars, historians, archivists, and curriculum specialists to enhance their instruction of the history of civil rights and race relations in the United States.

The Legacy of Brown project welcomes all social studies and history teachers to make use of the site's selected resources and lesson plans.
